About

Camilla Ryhl, Architect MAA, Ph.D, is Research Director at the Danish Bevica Foundation and Head of the foundation’s Universal Design Hub.

She holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. degree in architecture from the Royal Academy in Copenhagen and with an off set in her Ph.D. research on sensory disabilities and quality of architecture in housing, she has continued to specialize in Universal Design and sensory qualities of architecture.

She was an Ed Roberts Postdoctoral Fellow, researching and teaching Universal Design at UC Berkeley (2003-2006), where she was also a Fulbright Scholar (2000-2001). She was appointed the first Professor in Universal Design in the Nordic region at the Bergen School of Architecture in Norway (2010-2016). She was also Senior Researcher and Head of the Universal Design Research Group at BUILD, Aalborg University Cph (2006-2020) before joining the Bevica Foundation in 2020.

 Currently her work is focusing on facilitating development and integration of Universal Design as an interdisciplinary concept in research and education. She is active internationally and serves on several international committees, networks, and work groups.
