My organisation

The National Library Board (NLB) nurtures Readers for Life, Learning Communities, and a Knowledgeable Nation by promoting reading, learning, and history through its network of 28 libraries across Singapore, the National Library, and the National Archives of Singapore. As part of its ongoing commitment to the community, NLB has been working with partners and introduced a variety of new features at its libraries and archives for better learning and user experiences for patrons. For example, Punggol Regional Library, which opened in 2023, is purpose-built with a suite of accessible features catered to persons with disabilities, to assist them in the use of library spaces and resources, including Calm Pods, an Accessible Collection, and assistive technology.

About me

Verena is managing Punggol Regional LIbrary - NLB's first library that is purpose-built to welcome persons with disabilities. She has been involved in its early development since 2016, and has delved into library planning and operations management. She also formed the Accessibility team which spearheads the various initiatives to make NLB more inclusive for persons with disabilities, most of which has culminated in the offerings at Punggol.

Prior to joining NLB, Verena was formally trained as a social worker. She then joined NLB as a children’s librarian, serving in various public libraries, and developed reading programmes for schools. She also helped to set up the new Tampines Regional Library in 2017 and was manager of Woodlands Regional Library from 2018-2022.
