About me
I am a Project Coordinator at the Nippon Foundation, Japan's largest philanthropic organization. I manage four international multi-year grant projects on disability support, with particular focus on inclusive city design, education, and performing arts.
In 2022, I graduated with Distinction from the University of Oxford with a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in International Relations. My dissertation, grounded in the English School and practice theory. examined how Japan in the 19th and 20th centuries rose through the ranks of international society by learning and practicing international law. I held the Alice Freeman Palmer Fellowship, awarded to one Wellesley graduate for academic excellence.
Prior to Oxford, I graduated summa cum laude (GPA 4.0/4.0) from Wellesley College with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Political Science. I held the Madeleine K. Albright Fellowship (global leadership award/program by the late Secretary of State), Knapp Social Science Fellowship (for meritorious thesis), and Three Generations Prize for Writing in the Social Sciences (for excellent work in the social sciences).
Originally from Tokyo, I spent 17 years abroad in Switzerland, the U.S., and the UK.
My organisation
Established in 1962, the Nippon Foundation (TNF) is the largest private philanthropic organization in Japan. With a mission to establish “a society in which all people support one another,” TNF has supported a diverse array of international and domestic projects, including ocean affairs, social welfare, disaster recovery, leprosy, and support for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). TNF projects on PWDs over the past 50 years have spanned nearly 50 countries and over $1 billion in aid. Examples include facilitating the evacuation of PWDs in Ukrainian war zones, promoting bilingual deaf education in Southeast Asia, training prosthetics and orthotics professionals in Southeast Asia, and launching Valuable 500, a network of 500 prominent global companies committed to disability inclusion.
