United States International University - Africa

About

USIU-Africa, the oldest private secular university in East Africa, has over the last half century of its existence renowned for the high quality of education it offers and its innovativeness. The University enjoys several distinctive features.

  • First, it is the only one in the region that has dual accreditation in Kenya and the United States by the Commission for University Education and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, respectively.

  • Second, it is the most international university in the region, with students from more than 70 countries, not to mention all of Kenya’s 47 counties.

  • Third, it is a comprehensive university with schools and programs in the humanities and social sciences, business, science and technology, pharmacy and health sciences, and communication, cinematic and creative arts.

  • Fourth, it has first rate physical and electronic infrastructure.

  • Fifth, the University enjoys the best faculty-student ratios in Kenya at 1:32 compare to 1:70 in the public universities and faculty with PhDs (76% compared to the national average of 34%.

  • Finally, USIU-Africa has extensive partnerships with other universities around the region, the continent and globally, the private sector, national and county government, foreign embassies, international and intergovernmental agencies, and community organizations.

It is because of these assets that the University took the lead in Kenya and the region in dealing with the challenges brought about by COVID-19 to the higher education sector. It was among the first to transition, successfully, to online teaching once universities were ordered closed by the government.
