About me
Johannes Trimmel is Programme Director, Disability Inclusive Development, at Sightsavers. Working in the development cooperation sector throughout his professional life, he has focussed in the last 20 years on the rights of persons with disabilities, as well as health systems strengthening and access to eye health – amongst others as Director Advocacy at the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and Director for International Programme Support and Policies at Light for the World.
Past voluntary roles included being President of CONCORD, the European Confederation of Relief and Development NGOs (2014-2020), Member of the advisory group of the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism with the Universal Health Coverage 2030 multi-stakeholder platform (2017-2020), and Chair of the International Disability and Development Consortium (2005-2010).
Experience African good practices that empower children with disabilities in remote areas, with low-cost and easy-to-adapt programme modules, and IT support.
Sightsavers' Inclusive Futures, Multiple Countries: Integrates children with disabilities aged 4-14 into mainstream schools across 5 countries. Led by organizations of persons with disabilities, enrolled 1,607 children in 2021/22.
