Kilimanjaro Blind Trust Africa (KBTA) is a charitable trust based in Kenya. It works in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Ethiopia, and Malawi on the INCLUSION of children and young adults with visual impairments (VI) through innovation & technology. We provide an end-to-end, Education to Employment program that covers the following four thematic areas:

Access to digital literacy & skills for VI learners from grade 3 in primary schools to technical colleges and universities, where KBTA provides digital assistive devices and full service in terms of user training for teachers, access to digital curriculum and other learning content, maintenance, and repair training for school-based technicians as well as tools and spare parts.

Access to wider career options for VI high schoolers to access STEM subjects, ICT, and coding skills for wider career choices. KBTA provides the appropriate digital assistive devices along with training and digital content for VI learners in high school to take up these areas of study. KBTA also provides mentorship, club and camp activities for the learners, their teachers, and mentors.

Access to an immersive employability skills training program for young VI graduates to acquire employability work readiness skills and soft skills that enable them to access employment in the mainstream. KBTA also supports corporate companies and organizations to be disability inclusive.

Research and live labs support. KBTA provides human centered user testing on assistive technology innovations to innovators and entrepreneurs who develop AT technologies for persons with disabilities. KBTA also works with development partners and research institutions to support research on inclusion of persons with disabilities in all spheres of life.
